Airchat tells you what you need to know and lets you turn the rest down, per conversation and for yourself.

Per-conversation preference

In Channel Settings, each member chooses their own level:

Preference You are notified of
All Messages Every message in the conversation. The default.
Mentions Only Messages that @mention you, and any @here.
None Nothing, not even mentions. The unread badge still counts.

Set busy public channels to Mentions Only and leave job channels on All Messages.

Pausing everything

Pause Notifications from your own menu in the sidebar silences every conversation on every device until you choose Resume Notifications. Badges continue to update.

Away

Set Yourself Away turns your presence dot grey for the whole team even while you are logged in. Set Yourself Active turns it back. Otherwise, the dot is green while you have Airchat open on any device and grey a couple of minutes after your last one closes.

How notifications reach you

Notifications are never sent to the person who posted, and thread replies count as messages in the parent conversation.

Hiding a conversation

Hide Chat removes a direct message from your sidebar without deleting it. It reappears if someone posts.

When you cover a shoot, leave your job channel on All Messages and set yourself Away. The school's questions still reach you; the office knows not to expect an instant reply.
